A basket of apples
with plump, juicy skins
shine softly
in the warmth of the sun

Ripenening sweetness
dancing on air
filling thoughts
with scents of days gone by...

As father and daughter
rake in quiet contentment
in soft flannels
under October's fading sun

Among glowing piles
of snap-crackly leaves
freshly peppered with
spitfire

Bright golden-blue flames
leap and lick
orange remnants
of hot, hissing twigs

Nightfall comes, the fire is gone...

But the smoldering embers remain.
