The Clock ~ a prayer

Christine Jones is married to David. She has two adult children and precious grandchildren. She has worked for many years as a school teacher/librarian, and written children's material for several years in her 'spare time'. She loves nature, music and the theatre.
I see Your hand, like those of a clock
Imperceptibly, yet constantly
Moving purposefully in one direction.
That's how I know my life needs to be -
smoothly gliding, consistent
Using every situation to move in one direction
--Your Direction.
If I am to be like a clock,
With every movement, sound, activity
Harmonised, balanced and smooth
I see that I need a firm, steady axis.
Like the axis from which the hands of the clock
Receive their movement
So I receive my movement, my direction,
My purpose, in YOU.
"In You I live and move and have my being".
The hands of a clock don't worry about
The workings behind their actions.
Help me, like them, to leave the mechanical details to You,
To simply trust Your timing to be perfect.
Help me to be a graceful clock, Lord,
One whom You can look upon with joy,
And bring praise to You, the Maker
The Axis and Mechanic of my life.
Amen.
