We forget sometimes what our country means to us. That is until our children ask us. What makes our country so special, Mom? What does the Statue of Liberty stand for and what is the tomb of the Unknwn Soldier.
My daughter, Katie, is being honored to lay the wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier because of the poem we wrote together.
I Believe In My Country
I believe that I am worthy
To be a part of such a patriotic ceremony
Laying a wreath on the tomb of the
Unknown Soldier
Is a testimony
To honor all men and women
Who died for our country
They gave up the lives and their families
So that we can live in this wonderful country
Where we strive for freedom
No matter what race or religion
We are a nation for all
Sitting in history class year after year
I have learned how heroes and heroines
Have put beside their fear
And stood up to oppression
For this country they hold dear
I too have pride for this land
That I was fortunate enough to be born in
A land with oceans, mountains,
Plains and flowing rivers
Where you can speak your mind
Be whatever you want to be
