    Jesus Called...

"Mom, Mom, I’ve got something to tell you!" The excitement in Debbie’s voice matched the furious shaking Maria’s slender shoulder was receiving from her daughter’s hand. In the moment required for Maria to inquire as to the urgency, Debbie’s face settled into quiet resignation as she explained she’d just experienced a wonderful vision from God, but as she was preparing to tell her mother, Debbie saw iron gates closing and knew it meant she was not to tell what she had seen.

The glow on Debbie’s face returned as the vision was repeated but once again she had to sadly shake her head "no" she was not allowed to share what she had seen.

In the succeeding two weeks, acquaintances witness to momentarily puzzling comments on the part of Debbie—comments which became easily understood when Debbie transitioned to Heaven on Thanksgiving night. With an especially broad smile, she told people at work and at home she was "going to be out of here, she was getting a place of her own." "Life has been bitter to me; I am so impatient to be with Jesus." "At the end of the tunnel I see a big bright light and all our loved ones are there to greet us."

Debbie reassured her mother, "Never have doubt my heart is right. I have Jesus as my savior and cannot wait to see what he has in store for me."

She packed her work clothes away, telling her mother she’d not need them anymore. She gave her warm work cap to her nephew when he took her for a last visit with friends on Thanksgiving Day.

Thanksgiving morning, she spent time cleaning her mother’s house, telling Maria to expect lots of company and she knew Maria’s family would love the newly redecorated kitchen. As Debbie cleaned a photo of a neighbor boy who’d passed the year before, she indicated he had come to her, waved, and said, "Hi".

Thanksgiving was a very special day were one to judge it by the beautiful glow on Debbie’s face. She and her mother shared the turkey wishbone wish; she met a young homeless mother for whom she felt great compassion, intending to visit with her the next day.

When the call came from the hospital that Debbie had suffered a heart attack, Maria prayed without ceasing, but in her heart she felt the words, "I Surrender All". At the hospital she was joined in prayer by 5 others, nurses and chaplains and together they sang, "I Surrender All" and prayed before Maria was allowed to hold Debbie’s hand as the doctors worked frantically. As she told her daughter, "I love you," one last time she could sense her daughter was no longer in the bed and her spirit was at peace.

    For he shall give
    His angels charge over
    Thee, to keep thee in
    All thy ways. Psalm 91:11
