    Finding the Fool

April 1st, more commonly known as April Fool's Day, came on Sunday this year and I found myself reflecting on the past when it seemed to be a much bigger deal than it is today. The marking of a simpler time, I suppose.

Today, the children of The Living in Simple Faith House and I worked on setting up a computer lab so they will have an opportunity to further their knowledge--that is if my son-in-law can really set it up so the internet access is to educational websites only. Simple times continue to fade, simple ways seem lost, but the greatest tragedy is the abandonment of simple virtues and values.

"We cannot use created things for the glory of God unless we are in control of ourselves." --Thomas Merton

So, we use our creation, the computer, to make ourselves think we are wise and we dismiss April Fool's Day as a silly custom of the past. The Bible sees this co-mingling of foolishness, wisdom, virtues and values another way, "But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty" --1 Corinthians 1:27(KJV)
