What Needless Pain We Bear
I cannot sleep tonight. A refrain from an old hymn just keeps on playing in my head and it will not be quieted:
"O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry, everything to God in Prayer."
Along with the refrain are reminders of the pain I see all around me. I so want to make it easier for another who is suffering, but I cannot. I do not have the might nor the power to accomplish such a feat. I lay in bed and unexpectedly find myself crying out, "Lord, help us!" for I know no other with the might and the power to accomplish such a feat.
When people are so filled with fear that they are paralyzed into non-action--when people are so filled with anger that they can only lash out blindly--when people get sick because life is just too difficult--"Lord, help us!"
"What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear.
What a privilege to carry, everything to God in Prayer.
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry, everything to God in Prayer.
Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful, who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? take it to the Lord in prayer;
in his arms He'll take and shield thee, thou wilt find a solace there." --Joseph Scriven
