Between sleep and waking the
white bird escapes my gapping
mouth, a soft feathered storm of
protest and longing
flapping a breathy release
before consciousness can grasp
back that wild white spirit, sprung
suddenly, seeing the opening
to it’s rightful significance,
an upward swoop so courageously
alive in full-winged strength,
released finally to sing magic.

Melissa Wadsworth recently completed her first non-fiction book, a personal growth work entitled Picturing Your World: A Guide to Seeing and Appreciating Your Unique Life Path. A public relations professional for more than seventeen years, she has also applied her keen interests in aromatherapy to the creation of New Leaf Beauty, an all-natural, essential oil based, face and body skin care line.
